iPad has had a massive impact on the point of sale (POS) industry. Companies such as Revel, Shopkeep and Teamwork Retail are some of the solution providers quickly replacing ancient cash registers and POS terminals with modern iPad point of sale systems. These iPad POS systems can accept orders, process payments, track inventory, schedule employees, build customer databases and generate reports.
When installing iPads in stores and restaurants it is critical that network communication be fast, secure and reliable. Wi-Fi works in many instances but ethernet is faster, more secure and more reliable.
No iPad Ethernet Port? No Problem!
Until now it has been challenging to connect iPad to ethernet. The new iPad ethernet adapters from Redpark solve this problem. These adapters connect an iPad to ethernet and to power — allowing the iPad to be used on a 24 x 7 basis.
Two versions of the ethernet adapter are available.
Redpark’s Gigabit + PoE Adapter connects iPad to ethernet and uses power over ethernet (PoE) to charge the iPad. This adapter allows both power and data to be delivered to the iPad over a single ethernet cable over distances up to 300 ft.
The Gigabit + Power Adapter connects iPad to ethernet and charges the iPad using an external AC adapter.
Use Ethernet for an iPad point of sale (POS) system
Both of these adapters are licensed under Apple’s “Made for iPhone” (MFi) program and work with iPhones and iPads running iOS 10.0 (or later). They connect to 10/100/1000 networks and are available to be used by all iOS apps. They support communication at speeds up to 225 MBps.
They provide a reliable and secure networking solution needed by an iPad point of sale system.
