Field technicians in many industries have stopped carrying laptops and now use iPhone to conduct all of their field service activity. Companies such as ServiceMax provide apps that run on iPhone and iPad to meet the needs of this growing market.
In some industries technicians have continued to carry laptops because they must connect to ethernet to conduct their work. For example field technicians installing or servicing internet modems, IP cameras and other networking gear have a need to connect to ethernet. And technicians working in high security facilities may need to carry laptops to connect to ethernet because Wi-Fi is prohibited.
Redpark’s new ethernet adapters now connect iPhone to ethernet — allowing field technicians to leave the laptop at home.
It’s Easy to Connect iPhone to Ethernet and to Power!
Until now it has been difficult to connect iPhone to ethernet. The new iPhone ethernet adapters from Redpark solve this problem. These adapters connect the iPhone to ethernet and to power — allowing field technicians to install, test and service ethernet equipped devices. For example, a technician installing a new cable internet connection can now configure the cable modem and conduct a speed test all from their iPhone.
Three versions of the ethernet adapter are available.
Redpark’s Gigabit + PoE Adapter (L6-NETPOE) connects iPhone to ethernet and uses power over ethernet (PoE) to charge the iPhone. This adapter allows both power and data to be delivered to the iPhone over a single ethernet cable over distances up to 300 ft.
The Gigabit + Power Adapter (L6-NETAC) connects iPhone to ethernet and also charges the iPhone using an external AC adapter.
The third cable (L5-NET) is particularly handy for field technicians and is powered by the iPad or iPhone. It is compact and allows connection to devices such as IP cameras for configuration and testing during installation.
All of these adapters are licensed under Apple’s “Made for iPhone” (MFi) program and work with iPhones and iPads running iOS 10.0 (or later). They connect to 10/100/1000 networks and are available to be used by all iOS apps. They support communication at speeds up to 225 Mbps.
iPhone Field Service Means “Laptop Free” Field Service
There is no need for field service technicians to carry a laptop in order to connect to Ethernet devices.
